Wedding Ceremony Music
Before you start interviewing string quartets and contemplating song selections, do your homework. Some ceremony sites, officiants, and churches in particular, may have strict guidelines about which music can be played during a wedding ceremony. Secular locations may also have guidelines youll need to be aware of, setting limits on the noise or the space allotted for a band.
Consider the size of your venue when putting together your ensemble. For example, a huge brass quintet and a small chapel wont be a match - the sound may overwhelm the space. If you're having an outdoor wedding, you probably would not want the added expense of renting and tuning a piano (the outdoor humidty also wreaks havoc on tuning), but if electricity is available, Kevin's electric piano he brings is the perfect choice. There are many examples of his playing on this web site.
If youve got your heart set on a harp, make sure theres enough room (theyre huge), and scope out a practical way to get it inside your site (it would be difficult to have to drag a harp through a kitchen, for example). If youll be outside, a harp may not be the best choice - the sound wont be as strong because it tends to drift upwards. However, if you are hiring Kevin as your DJ, he can provide a wireless lapel microphone on the harp and tie it in with your ceremony PA. Contact Kevin if you need assistance with your ceremony amplification.
